Microfinance major Ujjivan commences its small finance bank operations in India
India-listed microfinance major Ujjivan Financial Services Ltd has begun the process of restructuring its business to becoming a small finance bank, following the Reserve Bank of India’s approval of its bank licence in September 2015. The new banking entity Ujjivan Small Finance Bank (Ujjivan SFB) began operations with effect from February 1, 2017.

African Development Bank and Alliance for Financial Inclusion Partner to Promote Financial Inclusion in Africa
The African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance access to quality financial services on the continent on Tuesday, January 31, 2017, in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. The agreement aims to create a collaboration framework to promote financial inclusion in Africa.

Learning from (and About) India’s Emerging Digital Money Grid
The Indian government's experience in converting all its citizens onto a digital platform can help inform all digital finance professionals interested in financial inclusion models, according to Ignacio Mas and his team at the Digital Frontiers Institute. So they've collaborated with MicroSave to create a four-week online course, Digital Money Grid India, which they'll offer starting March 27.

Press Release: MicroSave – MasterCard Foundation advance digital finance services in Francophone Africa
MicroSave (www.MicroSave.net), in partnership with The MasterCard Foundation (MasterCardFdn.org), today, 2 February 2017, launched a new program to develop tailored training courses in digital financial services (DFS) in francophone markets of Africa. The program is expected to benefit over 250 DFS providers and will focus on the WAEMU region, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Madagascar. Additionally, a DFS knowledge portal in French will be launched as the go-to place for information on digital financial services.
