The Gates Foundation this week announced it would tap Dr. Trevor Mundel, the global head of development at Novartis AG, to lead the Gates Global Health Program. Mundel’s charged with finding the most effective (and cost effective) drugs, vaccines and medical devices for the developing world. Clearly he’s someone who understands how to manage scale.

CMU’s New Campus in Rwanda, Aims to Expand ICT Knowledge, Worker Skills Across Africa
Today in Pittsburgh, the president of Carnegie Mellon University and the president of Rwanda will announce a major partnership between CMU and the Rwandan government to offer graduate ICT degrees. While one Center of Excellence can’t serve the entire continent, it can serve as model - just as ICT hubs inspired successful Silicon Valley startups.
